Fit News for You

My mom Dora and her regular work out crew at GoodLife Dougal in Windsor.

Hello Fit Crew,

How do you learn best?  Even my mom says, “At 87, I still learn.”  I’d love to know how you learn best or what you are learning. Your replies are a gift!

For me, just off the wave of the Yoga Conference last week, I am in awe with the amount of studies that are supporting what we know to be true – Movement is a key contributor to longevity…  AND so is stillness!  Here’s some big ah-ha’s that hit me and the evidence to prove it:

Myofascia – More than the release!

Fascia is now one of the most studied body parts. An all time favourite teacher of mine, Tiffany Cruikshank’s session on Strength and Resilience was an eye-opener as it explained how fascial health leads to building strength, agility and resilience transferred especially in the smaller, stabilizing muscles around our joints.

Check out the resources here on fascia on her Yoga Medicine page, and I love her video on Unpacking Shoulder Pain.

Brain on Meditation

Meditation actually decreases in brain cell volume in the amygdala, which is responsible for fear, anxiety, and stress. Our brains are no longer thought to be static, but can be changed through the creation of neural pathways and thickening to increase self awareness and concentration.  Good Read HERE.

Looking for a good app?  I subscribe to Gaia – but there are tons out there.

This month I will be working on Yoga for Active Aging and incorporating much of this evidence-based research in the practices and an in-depth look in Portugal… Speaking of which…

Friends doing Cool Things – Wearable Art

I’ve recently shifted my purchasing to supporting local artists in what I wear. Check out my friends, both London-based, who are creating these awesome wearable art pieces!  I own leggings from each – comfortable fit, no annoying seams and gorgeous!

Laura Dirk is an abstract expressionist visual artist. Her use of vivid colour and line express the energy of life in landscape, floral, water and figure motifs

Renee Primeau creates a beautiful array of abstract art that brings colour and energy to what you wear.

A very Happy Easter to all of you! I hope you find time to spend with family and friends or even a little solo time.

Feel free to share this newsletter with friends!  And please… reply back and let me know how things are in your world! Connected always,

Much love,

Loredana
